My Brother Knights:
The annual Youth Ministry Convention will be held in Portland on the weekend of April 25th - 27th 2008. Volunteers are needed to assist with security for the entire weekend. If you're looking for a way for your council to add more youth involvement this year, here is a great one. We need at least 18-24 people (men and women) per night, and around 30 during the day to assist in security for our youth. You must have completed the "Protecting God's Children " program and have passed the accompanying background check to participate in this convention. Contact State Warden Dave Roy at (642-3210) to schedule times or to get more information on this rewarding event.
The growth of the Squires in our state is, to say the least, non-existent. I feel that we as a group, and myself in particular, have failed the youth of our state. I am sure that we care about the youth, and that we all realize that our churches, communities and councils will all depend on the youth of today to be the leaders of tomorrow. More should be done on our part to bring the youth into the squires and begin their training as those future leaders that they surely will be. If a council feels they have too few youth to recruit from, consider a district or regional Circle. We need to increase our abilities by decreasing our average age; what better way than with a Squire Circle to draw from?
