Maine Knights of Columbus: In Service to our Church

The 90 Knights of Columbus councils in Maine are organized into 23 districts. These districts are designed to align as closely as possible with the 27 parish clusters established by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Portland.

The goal of this alignment is to help the Knights of Columbus in Maine to be, as Pope John Paul II called our fraternity, "the strong right arm of the Church." Although our organization provides service through five key program areas, our work in the area of church activities is ever more important in this day of increasing lay evangelization.

Maine's 27 clusters are organized into four regions. Within each region, a deacon works with the Knights of Columbus on church-related activities. The councils coordinate these activities with the deacon.

The chart below outlines the districts and their relationship to the clusters of the diocese.

Churches which do not have their own Knights of Columbus council may be served by a "roundtable," which is a function of a neighboring council.

As of July 2007, the names of the deacon liaisons are not available.

This alignment is a work in progress and every Catholic in Maine has a stake in its outcome. May God bless us all in our work.
