The local unit in the Knights of Columbus is known as a council. For Maine's 9500 Knights, there are 90 councils, organized in 23 districts. These districts were realigned effective July 1, 2006, to allow the Knights in Maine to better serve the Roman Catholic Diocese of Portland through its system of parish clusters.
Each district is administered by a district deputy. Each district deputy reports to the state deputy, who is responsible for the overall operation of the Knights of Columbus in Maine. All of the leaders at the local, district and state levels are volunteers.
Below is a listing of the districts in Maine and the councils in each district. Included are the times and locations of the council meetings as well as contact information, when this information has been provided to the webmaster.

27 clusters are organized into four regions. Within each region, a deacon
is assigned by the bishop to work with the Knights of Columbus on church-related
activities. The councils coordinate their activities with the deacon,
